November 22-26

Hi Class 4A!!

   Homework for the week:
   SPELLING
We have started our new Spelling program and it is going well!  Each week students review their own writing and try and pin point words that they are having difficulty with.  These are their words for the week.  Each night students will have a sheet that asks them to write their words and then write them in a good sentence.  This Thursday we will be trying something different.  Instead of writing new sentences each student is asked to re-read all the sentences they wrote this week.  Then they will choose their best sentence and make sure it is as interesting and perfect as they can.  On Friday we will share our sentences and decide which is the 'Winner of the Week'.  This sentence will be posted around the room with a copywrite sign that other students can then ask permission to use in their own writing!!

   MATH
Students again have math worksheets that they are to work on daily.  Each evening they are required to complete 2 of the lessons.  We are going through them in order.

Parents- if your child is unable to complete their homework due to other activities- such as hockey games, please write a quick note and your child will not need to stay in over lunch to complete it, they can catch up over the next few nights.  Without a note, students will be kept in to complete unfinished work.

Parent Information Meeting

There will be a parent information meeting tomorrow night, October 10 at 7:00pm.  This meeting will be held at SIS.  I was told today that following the meeting a bus will be available to take parents to Three Oaks to see the set up there. If this works out, I will be in our classroom at this time as well.

TRANSPORTATION

Here is a copy of what the Western School Board has decided to do about getting our students to and from TOSH.

TransportationTo avoid confusion for our students (and parents), we are planning to use the Elm Street Gym as a transfer location for all of the students starting Monday Nov. 15th. Bus students will take their usual buses to Elm Street in the morning but will go to the Gym instead of their classrooms. Walkers should be at the school between 8:30 a.m. and 8:45 a.m. and will also go to the Gym to be with their homeroom classes.  After all buses have arrived in the morning, the classes (accompanied by their teachers) will take a ‘shuttle bus’ to their new locations. Just before the usual end of the day, the Elm Street students (and staff) will return by shuttle bus to Elm Street in time for their regular dismissal (and either catch the regular bus to go home or walk if a non-bus student). Students should get home at the same times as they did before we had to make the school changes.

This means that I will be at Elm Street, in or around the gym on Monday, November 15 to meet our class.  I will go on the 'shuttle bus' with them to TOSH and take them to our new class!  I will also return on the bus with them in the afternoon.  If your student is a busser normally they do not have to change how they get to school.   For walkers-- we will not be leaving Elm Street before 8:45, so please do not show up too early, if possible.  Also-- walkers must be at Elm Street on time to catch the bus!!  My understanding is that there will be one run to the new school, if you miss the bus there will not be another one.  Please arrive no later than 8:45.  After the first few days we will know our departure time a bit better.

Our New Room

I was at TOSH on Friday to see our new room and location.  We are in the 100 wing of the school, right near the bus drop off doors.  We are really very seperate from the rest of the school.   There is a boys and girls washroom right across the hall from our class (Room 106).  ALso, TOSH students have been relocated to other lockers and we have our own Elm Street Locker room!
For our class, we have been given the biggest class!  It is significantly larger than our Elm Street room- so we will have lots of room to work in!
The TOSH staff and students have been amazing!  They are being so accomadating and thoughtfull!  I am confidant that our relocation here is going to be a good experience for our children.  All the teachers that are moving to TOSH are asd to leave our school and other staff and students, but feel good about going to TOSH.
I have asked about having a time for parents to come and visit the school, but with students in class and the Craft fair next week, this will not be possible.  However, once we are in the school I will try to offer a time after school one night to come and see our new location (I will post my name on the door to the room if you go to the craft fair you can look for it-- room 106!)

I hope you all have a good weekend.  If you have any questions or concern please don't hesitate to contact me.

New Class Location

We have heard as of this afternoon our class, 4A will be moving to Three Oaks.  We will be moving there with the other grade 4's and 5' from Elm Street.  There is a section of the school that has been cleared out for us.  We will have our own bathrooms and entrance as well as green space for the students!
At this time we have no news on bussing.  As I get more information I will post it for you!  If you have any questions please email me at kastuder@edu.pe.ca .

Picking Up Belongings

The Western School Board has announced that the school will be open on Friday, November 5 from 3-6pm for parents and students to return to the school to collect personal belongings.  I would ask that unless you have a specific belonging that you are concerned about, that you let me take care of it.  Myself and the EA's from our room will be packing up each students desk so that all of their books and supplies will be in our new room when they arrive!  I will also pack up any clothing items that have been left behind.  Thanks for your cooperation!

   Welcome Kolby to the Site!!
I miss all of you guys and I can't wait to be together again!!

Wednesday November 3, 2010

Check out the Math Question and Answer page for the answer to the first group of questions.
I have added a few subtraction questions for you to try.  If you go to the two Math Links I have posted you can print off some math sheets and do some practice of your math facts today as well!  Remeber, it is expected that you should be able to answer you multiplication facts upto the 9's times table in three seconds by the end of grade 4!  Keep practicing!  When we get back together we continue working on these and finding strategies to help you remeber some of them easier!
