Reading and Writing

Ausust 22nd
Have you all been reading on your break?  What about watching movies?  Let's take sometime to write a review!  Pick either a book, movie or TV show that you have watched while at home.  Now, write about it.  Don't just write a re-tell of the story.  Write your  thoughts on it.  Was it good or bad?  Funny or sad?  Who was your favorite character?  Could something have been done better?  Have you ever read or watched something like this before?
Have fun with it, be creative!

November 4
How are your stories going?  Let's check some key parts!
Does your story have a clear beginning, middle and end?  Does it follow a clear order?  Get someone at home to read it and see if they understand the events of your story.

Take a good look at your writing.  Do you see any words that don't look right?  How can you tell if it is spelled right or not?  Look closely for any patterns that are familar to you. If you still are not sure, why not check a dictionary?   There are even online dictionaries that you can use!  Here's one you can check out!

When you are done checking your words, try out some of the flashcards-- you can choose a grade to try out!  Some of the grade 4 cards are very difficult- you may want to start with a lower grade!  Have fun!

November 2
   Let's practice our writing together!
Why not take this time to write a story!
Pick a character-- a man, a boy, a teacher, a dog or a talking tree!!  It's up to you!!
What will your problem be?  A flat tire, no flour for a recipe, a lost dog bone?

Just start writing and see what you get!  Have a family member read it and see if it makes sense!  Remember good writers do not write one copy!  The try many times to get something they like and that makes sense to others!
